Procedure note
Ultrasound-guided renal biopsy done under strict aseptic conditions.
Orders
- Complete bed rest in the supine position (lying flat on the back), strictly until the next morning. Food and water, and passing urine, are allowed in the supine position.
- IV fluids NS or DNS at 50 ml per hour. Avoid if oedema is present.
- Collect 3 consecutive urine samples, one each time the patient passes urine, to look for haematuria.
- Monitor BP and pulse rate:
- every 15 minutes for the first 3 hours
- every 30 minutes for the next 6 hours
- every hour after that
- Haemoglobin level and ultrasound screening the next morning, if advised by the doctor.
Inform the doctor if
- BP is below 110/70 mm Hg
- Haematuria (blood in the urine) develops
- Fever or loin pain develops
