Ramzan fasting risk calculator

Answer 15 questions to see your fasting risk with diabetes on the 2026 international score, what it means, and what to do before Ramzan. Doctors get a medicine plan for the month.

This is a medical risk estimate, not a religious ruling. Whether to fast is a decision for you, your doctor and your scholar together. Do not change any medicine on the basis of this page. Nothing you enter leaves your phone.

Break the fast at once if

  • Your glucose is below 70 mg/dL
  • Your glucose is above 300 mg/dL
  • It is 70 to 90 mg/dL: check again within the hour, and break the fast if it is falling or you feel unwell
  • You feel shaky, sweaty, confused, faint, or very thirsty and weak
  • You are unwell with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea: do not fast that day

A finger-prick test is widely held not to break the fast. Checking is how a fast stays safe.

When to check your sugar on a fasting day

  1. Before suhoor
  2. Mid-morning
  3. Midday
  4. Mid-afternoon (this one catches trouble early)
  5. Before iftar
  6. About 2 hours after iftar
  7. Any time you feel unwell

Low risk and on tablets that rarely cause lows: once or twice a day may be enough, as your doctor advises. On insulin or a sulfonylurea: follow all seven. A glucose sensor makes this painless: how CGM works.

Suhoor, iftar and the hours between

  • Do not skip suhoor, and eat it as late as allowed. Choose slow foods: whole grains, dal, curd, eggs, paneer, vegetables.
  • Break the fast with water and 1 or 2 dates, then pause before the main meal.
  • Drink steadily between iftar and suhoor. Go easy on sweet drinks, strong tea and coffee.
  • Tarawih counts as exercise. If you are on insulin, tell your doctor you pray it. Avoid hard exercise in the last hours of the fast.
  • After Ramzan, doses go back. Come in during Eid week to reset them.
