OVERVIEW

Most of medicine is not an emergency

A nurse taking a patient's blood pressure in the outpatient room at Caspian Healthcare

Most of medicine is not an emergency and not a speciality problem. It is a fever that has gone on too long, a blood pressure reading that worried someone, a report you do not understand, or a child who is not right and you cannot say why.

That is what this is for. And unlike almost anywhere else at this size, there is a doctor here at three in the morning.

  • Fever, infections and acute illness in adults and children
  • Long-term conditions: blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, cholesterol
  • Reports you have been handed and not had explained
  • Minor injuries, wounds, dressings and sutures
  • Preventive checkups, and deciding which tests are actually worth doing
  • Referral into the right speciality, here or elsewhere
HOW COVER WORKS

On site, not on call from home

Our consultants sit at set times, listed on the doctors page. Outside those hours a primary care physician is on site (not on call from home, on site) and will see you, start treatment, and speak to the relevant consultant if your case needs it.

The laboratory, the pharmacy and nursing cover run 24 hours in the same building. A test at 2 am does not wait for morning, and the medicine is dispensed downstairs.

SCOPE

What we do not do

Our urgent care is for non-critical problems. We are not a trauma centre, we have no emergency department, no operation theatre and no intensive care unit. Acute medical problems are managed here; anything needing higher care is stabilised and referred without delay.

Chest pain, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking, a serious accident, heavy bleeding, unconsciousness, or a seizure that will not stop: call 108 or go directly to the nearest hospital with emergency facilities. Do not drive here first.
